What is Accelerator PMA?
Accelerator PMA is a rapid set, early strength enhancing additive based on a novel, synergist blend of inorganic ultra-rapid set accelerators. When used as a rapid set accelerator in Portland cement systems, it provides rapid set times and high early strengths.
It is supplied as an off white, free flowing powder for blending into dry Postmix formulations. Postmix is a dry, pre-bagged blend of cement and aggregate that is mixed with water and used to set posts in the ground.
Where is Accelerator PMA used?
Accelerator PMA has been designed as a replacement for High Alumina cement (HAC) and Calcium Sulfo aluminate (CSA) cements in Postmix products, where rapid set times are required along with high early strength.
HAC and CSA cements need further additives when used in Postmix. Accelerator PMA does not. Simply add it to the cement and aggregate package to provide rapid set and high early strengths.
Typical uses include:
- Rapid set Postmix for supporting posts and fencing
- Cold weather concreting, for which it is ideal
- Cost effective Postmix formulations with reduced cement contents
How to use Accelerator PMA
Dosage depends on the properties required, such as a set time between 5 and 10 minutes and enough early strength to support posts and fencing. It also varies with the OPC level in the formulation. As a starting point, base initial tests on Accelerator PMA at 10% on cement weight. Typical dosage rates are:
| Cement content of the Postmix |
Typical Accelerator PMA dose |
| OPC below 200kg per tonne |
15kg to 25kg per tonne |
| Cement above 200kg per tonne |
20kg to 25kg per tonne |
Cost effective Postmix formulations can be achieved with cement contents in the region of 120kg per tonne combined with Accelerator PMA at around 12kg.
These figures are typical only. Confirm the dose for your cement, aggregate and target set time with trials, and speak to our technical support team before going into production.
Health and safety
Refer to the Accelerator PMA Safety Data Sheet, available on request, for full instructions. Wear suitable PPE, including gloves and goggles, when handling.
Packaging, storage and shelf life
Accelerator PMA is supplied in 1000kg bulk bags. Store it in dry conditions and avoid contact with water. When stored correctly, it has a shelf life of 12 months from date of manufacture.
Accelerator PMA or Accelerator A?
Both are rapid set, high early strength additives for Postmix. Accelerator A is used at different typical dosage rates, so ask our technical team which suits your formulation. For precast and ready mixed concrete, see UKCP Rapid Set.
