What is BlokSeal?

BlokSeal is a surface sealer and efflorescence reducer for the protection of concrete blocks and bricks. It is a low viscosity, water based acrylic emulsion, based on an APEO free core-shell pure acrylic copolymer.

Its typical properties include high exterior durability, low VOC, blocking resistance and efflorescence resistance.

What do these terms mean?

APEO free means the emulsion is made without alkylphenol ethoxylates, a group of surfactants that some users prefer to avoid. Core-shell describes polymer particles built with an inner core and an outer shell of different composition. MFFT, the minimum film forming temperature, is the lowest temperature at which an emulsion can form a continuous film as it dries. Blocking resistance describes how well a coated surface resists sticking to another surface pressed against it.

Efflorescence is the white, powdery deposit that can appear on concrete and masonry when water carries soluble salts to the surface and evaporates.

Where is BlokSeal used?

Typical applications for BlokSeal include:

  • Brick and block sealing
  • Efflorescence reduction
  • Roof tile coatings
  • Interior and exterior coatings

For precast producers looking to tackle efflorescence within the mix as well, our CompaktAid and CompaktAid Plus compaction aids increase density and reduce porosity.

How to use BlokSeal

  1. Stir the product before use.
  2. Apply BlokSeal neat or diluted directly onto the surface of the concrete block or brick.
  3. Apply by brush, roller or a low pressure spray system, such as HVLP or LVLP.

Confirm the right dilution and application rate for your products with trials and with our technical support team.

Packaging, storage and shelf life

BlokSeal is supplied in 1000kg IBCs and in bulk. Store it at a temperature between +5°C and +25°C, avoiding frost and direct sunlight, and stir before use. If stored according to these conditions and in the original unopened containers, the dispersion will be stable for 12 months. Use the product as soon as possible after opening.

BlokSeal FAQs

Common questions about BlokSeal. For project specific advice, contact our technical team.

What is BlokSeal?

BlokSeal is a surface sealer and efflorescence reducer for the protection of concrete blocks and bricks. It is a low viscosity, water based, APEO free core-shell pure acrylic copolymer emulsion with high exterior durability and low VOC.

How is BlokSeal applied?

BlokSeal can be applied neat or diluted directly onto the surface of the concrete block or brick. It can be applied by brush, roller or low pressure spray systems such as HVLP and LVLP. Ask our technical team for advice on dilution for your product and process.

Does BlokSeal help reduce efflorescence?

Yes. Efflorescence reduction is one of the typical applications of BlokSeal, and efflorescence resistance is one of its typical properties. Results depend on the substrate and conditions, so trial it on your own products first.

Can BlokSeal be used on roof tiles?

Yes. Roof tile coatings are listed among the typical applications of BlokSeal, alongside brick and block sealing and interior and exterior coatings.

How should BlokSeal be stored?

Store BlokSeal between +5°C and +25°C, avoiding frost and direct sunlight, and stir before use. Stored this way in the original unopened containers, it remains stable for 12 months. Use the product as soon as possible after opening.
