What is MRA1?

UKCP MRA1 is a maximum concentration, low to medium viscosity mould release oil. It is a chemical release agent specifically formulated to give easy release of plastic and thermoplastic mould liners while providing a high quality surface finish. It is also suitable for all types of formwork and offers corrosion protection to any metal surface.

MRA1 is a suspension and sediment free, highly mobile liquid, so it can be used in very fine sprays without clogging the jet. It retains its mobility at low temperatures.

Where is MRA1 used?

MRA1 gives excellent results on plastic mould liners, and it can be used in a range of casting situations:

  • Plastic and thermoplastic mould liners, where quick positive release reduces labour costs and damage to the liners
  • All types of formwork
  • Metal or timber mould boxes that hold the mould liner, allowing easy cleaning of all equipment
  • Grey or white cement, and concretes incorporating pigments

MRA1 drastically reduces the incidence of blowholes, surface blemishes and staining.

How to use MRA1

  1. Use MRA1 as supplied. It is ready to use and should not be diluted.
  2. Apply it as thinly and evenly as possible by spray, fine haired brush, swab or roller. For the best and most economical performance, a fine fog spray is recommended.
  3. Mop up any excess.
  4. Cast immediately, or leave the treated forms until apparently dry.

A recommended thin coating typically gives a coverage of 30 to 40m² per litre, depending on surface porosity. Apply MRA1 as recommended for optimum performance and economy, and confirm the right rate with trials and our technical team.

For health and safety information, refer to the Safety Data Sheet, available on request.

Packaging, storage and shelf life

MRA1 has a shelf life in excess of 12 months in sealed containers. Protect it from frost and store it in a well ventilated area, away from naked flames, electrical equipment and food stuffs. For current pack sizes, please contact UKCP.
