What is FASTSET 30?

FASTSET 30, also referred to as FASTSET FS30, is a polymer modified, cementitious repair compound for cosmetic concrete repair. It sets within 20 to 30 minutes, depending on temperature, to suit rapid repair of concrete structures, and it conforms to Class R3 of EN 1504-3.

Like FASTSET 1, it contains special cements that provide a rapid set and very high early strengths, and powder polymers that provide strong adhesion to the substrate along with improved surface hardness. The difference is working time. FASTSET 30 sets within 20 to 30 minutes rather than 5 to 10 minutes, which makes it easier to use on repairs that need careful shaping.

Where is FASTSET 30 used?

FASTSET 30 has been developed for precast applications where rapid repair to damaged surfaces is required. Mixed with water, it is applied to damaged areas and can be shaped and profiled to provide a seamless repair. Main application areas are the repair of in-situ and precast concrete, including:

  • Filling surface voids and blowholes
  • Concrete pipe spigots and sockets
  • Damaged concrete floors and steps

For structural repairs, or where reinforcement is exposed, talk to our technical support team before starting work.

How to use FASTSET 30

  1. Prepare the surface. Make sure it is sound, clean and free from laitance, loose materials, oil, grease and other surface contaminants. If necessary, hack the surface back to a sound substrate.
  2. Damp down. Wet the surface with clean water to reduce suction.
  3. Prime difficult substrates. For improved adhesion, brush on a slurry of water and FASTSET 30 mixed at 1:4 by volume.
  4. Mix. In a clean container, add water to the powder in small quantities until the desired consistency is achieved. The typical water to powder ratio is 1:5 by weight.
  5. Apply and shape. Use the working time to shape and profile the repair to match the surrounding concrete.

Do not mix more material than can be used within the setting time. The recommended minimum application temperature is 5°C, and a 10kg pack gives an approximate yield of 5.10 litres. Mix ratios are typical and vary with the application, so confirm them with trials and our technical team.

FASTSET 30 FAQs

Common questions about FASTSET 30. For project specific advice, contact our technical team.

What is FASTSET 30?

FASTSET 30, also known as FASTSET FS30, is a polymer modified, cementitious repair compound for cosmetic concrete repair. It sets within 20 to 30 minutes, depending on temperature, and uses special cements and powder polymers for very high early strength, strong adhesion and improved surface hardness. It conforms to Class R3 of EN 1504-3.

How long does FASTSET 30 take to set?

FASTSET 30 sets within 20 to 30 minutes, depending on temperature, and in approximately 20 minutes at 20°C. Higher temperatures shorten the setting time and lower temperatures extend it, so plan the size of each mix around the conditions on the day.

When should I choose FASTSET 30 instead of another FASTSET?

Choose FASTSET 30 when you need more time to place, shape and profile the repair than FASTSET 1 allows, as FASTSET 1 sets within 5 to 10 minutes. FASTSET R4 (30) has a similar setting time and meets Class R4 of EN 1504-3. For a controlled 2 hour set, look at FASTSET FS120.

What is the mix ratio for FASTSET 30?

The typical water to powder ratio is 1:5 by weight, adjusted to suit the consistency your application needs. A 10kg pack gives an approximate yield of 5.10 litres. Confirm the mix with trials and ask our technical team if you need advice.

Can FASTSET 30 be used for structural concrete repair?

FASTSET 30 is formulated for cosmetic concrete repair. It is non-corrosive and compatible for use with steel reinforcement, but for structural repairs, repairs around exposed reinforcement or any repair to a load bearing element, contact our technical support team for advice first.

How is FASTSET 30 supplied and stored?

FASTSET 30 is supplied in 15kg paper sacks. Avoid storing below 5°C or above 30°C. Stored correctly, it has a shelf life of 12 months from date of manufacture.
