What is FASTSET R4 (30)?
FASTSET R4 (30) is a polymer modified, cementitious repair compound for concrete repair. It meets the requirements for Class R4 EN 1504-3 high strength and high build repair mortars. EN 1504-3 is the European standard for concrete repair mortars, and R4 is its highest strength class.
It sets within 20 to 30 minutes, depending on temperature, to suit rapid repair of concrete structures. Special cements provide rapid set and extremely high early strengths, and powder polymers provide strong adhesion to the substrate along with improved surface hardness.
Where is FASTSET R4 (30) used?
FASTSET R4 (30) has been developed for precast applications where rapid repair to damaged surfaces is required. Mixed with water, it is applied to damaged areas and can be shaped and profiled to provide a seamless repair. Main application areas are the repair of in-situ and precast concrete, including:
- Filling surface voids and blowholes
- Concrete pipe spigots and sockets
- Damaged concrete floors and steps
It is non-corrosive and compatible for use with steel reinforcement. For any repair involving exposed reinforcement, talk to our technical support team first.
How to use FASTSET R4 (30)
- Prepare the surface. Make sure it is sound, clean and free from laitance, loose materials, oil, grease and other surface contaminants. If necessary, hack the surface back to a sound substrate.
- Damp down. Wet the surface with clean water to reduce suction.
- Prime difficult substrates. For improved adhesion, brush on a slurry of water and FASTSET R4 (30) mixed at 1:4 by volume.
- Mix. In a clean container, add water to the powder in small quantities until the desired consistency is achieved. The typical water to powder ratio is 1:5 by weight.
- Apply and shape. Place the repair, then shape and profile it to match the surrounding concrete.
Do not mix more material than can be used within the setting time. The recommended minimum application temperature is 5°C, and the approximate yield is 5.10 litres per 10kg. Mix ratios are typical and vary with the application, so confirm them with trials and our technical team.
Health and safety
Refer to the FASTSET R4 (30) Safety Data Sheet, available on request, for full instructions. Wear suitable PPE, including gloves and goggles, when handling.
Packaging, storage and shelf life
FASTSET R4 (30) is supplied in 15kg paper sacks and 1000kg bulk bags. Avoid storing at temperatures below 5°C or above 30°C. When stored correctly, it has a shelf life of 12 months from date of manufacture.
